Fire Helmet

- Black leather fire helmet belonging to Kevin Christopher Dowdell. The black leather front piece features the identifier "2 | 7416" printed in white, as well as a small shamrock at the top. The leather is cracked, dirty, and covered in soot. The right side of the helmet's brim has had some leather repair.

- FDNY Lieutenant Kevin Christopher Dowdell nurtured his sons’ dedication to public service, whether it was Patrick’s dream of attending the United States Military Academy at West Point or James’s desire to become a firefighter. After Kevin died on 9/11, both sons spent weeks at Ground Zero searching for him. Later, they pursued their service paths. Patrick served as a U.S. Army Captain and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. James followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the FDNY.
