Fire Helmet
- Description
- Black hard-shell fire helmet belonging to James Dowdell, son of Kevin Christopher Dowdell. The helmet has a visor, interior ratchet suspension, and a fabric neck guard. The black leather front piece features the identifier "2" for FDNY Rescue 2. The helmet is coated completely in black soot and dust.
- Historical Notes
- James Dowdell grew up around members of FDNY Rescue Company 2, where his father, Kevin Christopher Dowdell, worked earlier in his career. James recalled that his father “loved everything about the firehouse.” After Kevin died on 9/11, James followed his example by joining the FDNY. He served at Rescue 2 before earning the rank of lieutenant in 2025.
