Historical Notes
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) Memorial Park, constructed in the fall of 2001 adjacent to the Medical Examiner's East 30th Street mortuary facility space, provided a designated staging area for the victims of the World Trade Center attacks incoming human remains. The tent later served as a holding place for forensic operations and cloistered visits by bereaved family members. Never intended as a permanent solution for the maintenance of still-unidentified or unclaimed victims’ remains, Memorial Park was dismantled after the remains were transferred respectfully to a new, purpose-built repository established at the Memorial site.
This flag was displayed inside the OCME Memorial Park tent.
