- Plywood board covered in signatures and patches left by medics and Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMATs) stationed at Ground Zero. The board has a piece of plexiglass nailed to the front to cover and protect the signatures, patches, and other ephemera attached to the board. The notes, patches, and other ephemera are representative of DMATs from around the country.

Disaster Medical Assistance Teams provide primary and acute care, triage of mass casualties, initial resuscitation and stabilization, advanced life support, and preparation of sick or injured patients for evacuation during a domestic disaster. One DMAT consists of 35 people; it includes physicians, nurses, medical technicians, and ancillary support personnel. They can mobilize within six hours of notification and are capable of arriving at a disaster site within 48 hours. They can sustain operations for 72 hours without external support.
Immediately after 9/11, DMAT teams from across the country came to New York City to provide medical aid and mental health services to those searching for victims. This plywood, once part of a security wall around one of their tents at Ground Zero, bears messages and patches left by teams from around the country. These contributions reflect the range of personal sentiments in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
