Historical Notes Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, William Chalcoff lived in Roslyn, Long Island, with his wife, Michelle, and their two sons. William and his wife, also from Argentina, had become U.S. citizens in summer 2001. A self-employed information technology specialist, William was consulting for Marsh & McLennan. On September 11, he was at the firm’s offices on the North Tower’s 97th floor. He was 41 years old.
Curator's Comment This key chain was left on the N-16 parapet of the North Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for William A. Chalcoff on February 7, 2023. A note found with this key chain (and others left with it as tribute offerings) reads: "I bought these flags in El Calafate, Argentina in 2022 for the 5 Argentinians who were lost here on 9-11. The key chains with their names were bought in Buenos Aires. They were [placed] on each of the 5 names today (2-7-23) in honor of each of the 5." HIDE
