Born in Grymes Hill on Staten Island, Michael Cammarata lived in Huguenot with his parents. A hockey player in college, Michael earned a perfect score on the FDNY firefighter exam and joined in May 2001. At Ladder Company 11, he was in week nine of a 14-week training program and was set to try out for the FDNY hockey team. On September 11, Firefighter Cammarata responded to the towers. He was 22 years old.
