Description
Long-sleeved military uniform shirt with adjustable collar. The patch on the upper right sleeve is of a backward American flag in brown and black, to blend in with the sleeve camouflage. The shirt is light tan in color with digital pattern desert camouflage on the sleeves and collar. A zipper runs from the top of the collar to the end of the sternum.
Historical Notes
Intended for wear under body armor, this camouflage shirt was worn by one of the U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six members who was present when Osama bin Laden was killed during the May 1, 2011 (EDT), nighttime raid on his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Referencing bin Laden by his codename, the assault team radioed members of the Joint Special Operations Command, “For God and country—Geronimo, Geronimo, Geronimo; Geronimo E.K.I.A. [enemy killed in action].” The success of that high-risk mission, known as Operation Neptune Spear, ended the global manhunt—begun before 9/11—for the ringleader of the al-Qaeda terrorist network.
The American flag patch on the shirt is rendered in black and brown to blend in with the camouflage pattern. The flag is backward, a symbolic gesture referencing the era when the flag-bearer led soldiers behind him on the charge to battle.
