Historical Notes
Born in Queens, Michael Cawley lived in North Bellmore, Long Island. After years of saving up, he bought his dream home there. A firefighter with FDNY Ladder Company 136, Michael earned a commendation for rescuing a man who had been electrocuted while fixing power lines. On September 11, although off duty, Firefighter Cawley responded to the World Trade Center with Rescue Company 4. He was 32 years old.
