Historical Notes Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Jose Calderon-Olmedo lived in Annandale, Virginia, with his wife, Gloria, and their two children. Jose spent 19 years in the U.S. Army, including tours in Germany, the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War, and South Korea. On September 11, Sergeant First Class Calderon-Olmedo was at the Pentagon where he served as an Army supply sergeant. He was 44 years old.
Curator's Comment A native of Puerto Rico, Sergeant First Class Jose Calderon-Olmedo served for 19 years in the U.S. Army. He was stationed around the world, including tours in Germany, South Korea, and in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, which this cap commemorates. A decade later, on 9/11, Jose was working stateside at the Pentagon as an Army supply sergeant.
