Historical Notes Jersey City, New Jersey, native Tonyell McDay lived in Colonia with her parents. She was a published poet and a gospel singer who sang with a choir that was about to record its first album. With skills honed as a computer help desk analyst at Marsh & McLennan, Tonyell often repaired friends’ computers for free. On September 11, she was at work on the North Tower’s 97th floor. Tonyell was 25 years old.
Curator's Comment Tonyell McDay’s family appreciated her sense of style. She decorated her church for special events, created and sold drawings, and advised her mother on living room paint colors and curtains. Tonyell’s interest in design extended to clothing, too, and shoes in particular. High heels were one of her trademarks. Besides owning many pairs of shoes, Tonyell collected shoe figurines. HIDE
