Description Gaelic football medal belonging to Damian Meehan. The medal depicts a small image with printed text in Gaelic. The back of the medal is engraved "New York | All-Stars | 1997."
Historical Notes Raised in Manhattan’s Inwood area, Damian Meehan lived in Glen Rock, New Jersey, with his wife, Joann—who was pregnant—and their young son. One of nine children, Damian often recruited his siblings to compete with him in races or to play a round of golf. Damian worked as a trader at Carr Futures. On September 11, he was in his office on the North Tower’s 92nd floor. He was 32 years old.
Curator's Comment A son of Irish immigrants, Damian Meehan had played Gaelic football since childhood. He was a fullback on the team at Good Shepherd School in Manhattan and later joined the Gaelic Athletic Association’s New York division, competing on the team for Donegal, his parents’ native county in Ireland. This medal, emblazoned with the league’s name in Gaelic, commemorates the All-Star team on which Damian played in 1997. HIDE
