Curator's Comment When not on duty as an FDNY firefighter assigned to Squad 41, Bruce Van Hine loved hiking. Over the years, he day-hiked the lengths of the New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut segments of the Appalachian Trail. During these expeditions, he often left Bibles donated by a member of his church in the wayside shelters he came across. Shortly before September 11, Bruce fulfilled a dream of camping out for a night along the trail. HIDE
