Description
Pair of cylindrical hardwood sticks called the clave, a percussion instrument belonging to Darryl Anthony Taylor. The larger stick has a semicircle indentation in the center, part of which is covered in clear adhesive tape. The narrower stick has clear adhesive tape wrapped around one end.

Historical Notes
Manhattan native Darryl Anthony Taylor lived for 30 years in Clifton on Staten Island. After teaching himself to play the drums as a child, he mastered instruments ranging from bongos to Batá drums and performed with a band, Cocoa Suave. Darryl was employed at General Telecom as a computer systems analyst. On September 11, he was on the North Tower’s 83rd floor. Darryl was 52 years old.

While growing up in Manhattan and Staten Island, Darryl Taylor acquired a passion for the Latin music and jazz records his father would play. Darryl banged out his own rhythms on pots and pans until his parents purchased a drum set for him at age 12. As an adult, Darryl continued to play percussion with several local bands, among them a Staten Island Latin jazz group called Cocoa Suave.
