Recovered brown leather wallet belonging to William Wren, Ret. The wallet is severely damaged with areas cracked, missing, or burned. The wallet is warped from exposure to the elements. Inside the wallet are business cards, identification cards, and paper.

Historical Notes
Brooklyn-born William Wren lived in Lynbrook on Long Island with his wife, Patricia. They had raised two sons. William liked to visit art museums and watch televised art history lectures. After retiring from FDNY Ladder Company 166, he became a resident manager of fire safety at the World Trade Center. On September 11, William aided in the evacuation of the towers. He was 61 years old.

Curator's Comment
After retiring from a 25-year career with the FDNY, William Wren put his firefighting and lifesaving skills to use as the fire safety director for OSC Security at the World Trade Center. On duty on 9/11, he found a few moments to telephone his wife and assure her of his safety. He was able to describe the emergency and his efforts to aid in the evacuation. When Wren’s wallet was found at Ground Zero, it still contained evidence of a long career in fire safety and service.
