Born in Summit, New Jersey, Wayne Russo lived in Union with his parents. A music lover, Wayne had played drums since college with his own punk music band, Stetz. He was also a New York Giants fan who had attended nearly every home game since 1976. On September 11, Wayne was on the 98th floor of the North Tower where he worked as an accountant at Marsh & McLennan. He was 37 years old.

Wayne Russo’s passion for music was intense and eclectic. As a boy, he received a snare drum from a friend. This gift was the start of a lifelong musical adventure. Wayne taught himself to play and then graduated to a full drum set in high school. Inspired by 1970s rock bands like KISS and AC/DC, Wayne and a friend started their own group, Stetz. The band practiced in the Russo family basement. Wayne’s sister, Lynne, recalls family dinners marked by “thumping music coming from below our feet.” Wayne continued to play with the band through college. The group released an album in 1986, shortly before Wayne graduated, having majored in business and accounting.
