Longtime Port Authority employee Barbara Iannacone-Ramos managed the shopping mall in the concourse beneath the World Trade Center. She felt the effects of the impact of Flight 11 more than 90 floors above and observed the plaster ceiling crumbling overhead. Iannacone-Ramos initiated an evacuation of customers and staff from the stores and attempted to establish communication with the Port Authority command center. Using this handheld radio that morning, she heard the voices of colleagues high in the North Tower and of those trying to help them.
