Joseph Massian, an information technology consultant for the Port Authority, grabbed his backpack and left his office on the 70th floor of the North Tower as soon as he felt the building shake. Taking the stairs, he reached the sidewalk moments before the South Tower collapsed. He fled, running east, with the debris cloud at his back.
