Caitlyn McIntyre was five years old when her father, PAPD Officer Donald James McIntyre, died in the 9/11 attacks. Inspired by his service and her mother’s nursing career, Caitlyn committed herself to what she calls “quiet acts of service.” She became a registered nurse in 2018. While treating patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, she often thought about her father’s response on 9/11, repeating a personal mantra: “If he can do it, I can do it.”
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Caitlyn was terrified, but she felt the parallels between the life-and-death situation she faced and the one her father faced on 9/11. "It was my time to step up,” she said. She wore this memorial bracelet and wrote her father’s PAPD badge number on her wrist before hospital shifts.
