Description: Hymnal book titled "The Song Book of the Salvation Army" from Twin Ponds Wilderness Lodge, Newfoundland. The book is covered in red fabric with black printed text on the front. Below the text is the Salvation Army crest, which includes the motto "Blood and Fire." The binding and spine of the book are worn. Inside the book are printed hymns.
Historical Notes: On 9/11, when U.S. airspace closed, almost 7,000 passengers and crew were diverted to Gander, a small town in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. They were welcomed by locals offering food, shelter, and kindness. The people of Gander opened their homes to stranded passengers and converted other local buildings into shelter. Some passengers slept in a Salvation Army camp, where they sang songs out of this songbook.
