Description Souvenir name tag key chain left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Mario L. Santoro. The key chain is a small Argentina license plate with "MARIO" on the front.
Historical Notes Mario Santoro moved to the United States from his native Argentina as a child. He lived with his wife, Leonor, and their two-year-old daughter in lower Manhattan and coached youth basketball at his church. Mario worked as an emergency medical technician with New York Presbyterian Hospital. On September 11, he responded to the World Trade Center with his ambulance partner. Mario was 28 years old.
Curator's Comment This key chain was left on the S-26 parapet of the South Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Mario L. Santoro on February 7, 2023. A note found with this key chain (and others left with it as tribute offerings) reads: "I bought these flags in El Calafate, Argentina in 2022 for the 5 Argentinians who were lost here on 9-11. The key chains with their names were bought in Buenos Aires. They were [placed] on each of the 5 names today (2-7-23) in honor of each of the 5." HIDE
