Description
Sculpture made from recovered steel from the World Trade Center, created by sculptor Bryan Hunt. A cast concrete form holds a fragment of three-quarter-inch-thick steel engraved with text that reads: "RECOVERED STEEL | WORLD TRADE CENTER" on the front and "SEPTEMBER 11, 2001" on the back.
Historical Notes
On behalf of the City of New York, sculptor Bryan Hunt designed commemorative pieces from World Trade Center steel for distribution to interested families of the victims of 9/11 through the Gift of New York Foundation. The gesture was timed for the holiday season in 2002 and represented something palpable and permanent, recognizing that so many families had not received any of their loved ones' remains.
