Catherine Salter grew up in Wellsville, Ohio. She attended the University of Cincinnati and joined Aon Corporation’s Cincinnati branch in 1991. Catherine was promoted to assistant vice president in 2000 and transferred to New York. She settled in Brooklyn but kept ties to Ohio, visiting often and buying Cincinnati Reds season tickets. On September 11, she was on the South Tower’s 92nd floor. She was 37 years old.

After Catherine Salter moved to New York City from Cincinnati in early 2000, she maintained strong ties to her Ohio roots. Catherine reflected on the importance of community in a note to herself, writing: “The least important word: I,” and “The most important word: we.” She had commuted back and forth to her native Ohio almost monthly—to attend an annual pool party, take her elderly dog home for one last visit, or enjoy season tickets to her beloved Cincinnati Reds baseball team.
