Description
Child's handmade marker and pencil drawing created by a child from France and included in the Fraternally Collection from Le Memorial de Caen. The drawing depicts two tower-like buildings with a family standing in front. The mother, father, and two children are holding hands and crying. Around the towers are drawings of a police car, excavator, and fire truck. A large red heart and rainbow are drawn between the towers, and figures of angels surround them. At the top is handwritten text in French that translates in English to read: "The two towers are repaired thanks to the firefighter worker and police." At the bottom of the page, text translates to read: "And the family is reunited."
Historical Notes
Soon after September 11, 2001, the major French daily newspaper Ouest-France and Radio France, in association with the Mémorial de Caen, launched an operation titled “Fraternally.” Thousands of children’s drawings, letters and postcards, and materials from adults, as well as expressions of friendship, were gathered through this operation, aimed to show Normandy’s support for the American people. Le Mémorial de Caen is a museum in Normandy, France, that commemorates D-Day during World War II.
