The drawing depicts the Twin Towers and a large sun and birds in the sky. Handwritten text at the top reads: "Que la lumière et la chaleur du soleil réchauffent ton cœur et te rendent le bonheur. Bonheur à New York. Je t'envoie un rayon de soleil de Bretagne en France," which translates to "May the light and warmth of the sun warm your heart and restore your happiness, New York. I am sending you a ray of sunshine from Brittany in France."
Historical Notes
Soon after September 11, 2001, the major French daily newspaper Ouest-France and Radio France, in association with the Mémorial de Caen, launched an operation titled “Fraternally.” Thousands of children’s drawings, letters and postcards, and materials from adults, as well as expressions of friendship, were gathered through this operation, aimed to show Normandy’s support for the American people. Le Mémorial de Caen is a museum in Normandy, France, that commemorates D-Day during World War II.
