Description
1,000 multicolored miniature origami paper cranes sent to Nino's Restaurant by Japanese schoolchildren. The long strings of stacked cranes are attached to a larger green crane at the top. Handwritten on the large green crane is text that reads "Hold Out America" on one wing. The other wing reads: "May Their Souls Rest In Peace." Additional tags at the top list the names of Japanese students.
Historical Notes
Students in Japan created this display of 1,000 folded paper cranes, a symbol of peace and healing. They sent this colorful tribute to Nino’s Restaurant near Ground Zero, where rescue, recovery, and relief workers gathered to find respite and eat.
