Historical Notes
Sgt. Christopher Jhon was born in Jackson Heights and spent his childhood and early adolescence in Queens. Only eleven years old on September 11, 2001, he vividly remembers experiencing the shock of the day.
After enlisting with the Army in 2013, Jhon was assigned to the historic 101st Airborne Division in the role of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Officer, tasked with operating unmanned drones for surveillance and combat missions in Iraq. In 2017, while based at Qayyarah Airfield West (“Q-West”), Iraq, he encountered a motif of the Twin Towers painted on an exterior wall at the base’s fire department facilities. The painting listed every responder killed on 9/11. Jhon’s own connections to New York City and the influence of 9/11 on his decision to enlist spurred a deep sense of pride that he was contributing the “War on Terror” as part of the 101st Airborne.
