Lieutenant Jacob Chin, FDNY Engine Company 9
Description
Life-sized Polaroid photograph taken by Joe McNally depicting FDNY Engine 9 Lieutenant Jacob Chin wearing his full bunker gear and holding a large flashlight. His boots and pants are dusty.
Historical Notes
"When the recall came, Chin, concerned that traffic would delay his driving into Manhattan, put on his dress uniform, grabbed his badge and asked his wife to drive him to the Long Island Expressway, where he got out and hitchhiked to his Canal St. firehouse. Members of his house, which also includes Ladder 6, survived the collapse of Tower 1. Chin recalled, 'I thought I was going to hear my colleagues die on the radio. When they got out, I kissed every single one of them.'"
