Description
Bound notebook containing a handwritten account by Linda Christopoulos dated November 12, 2001. The account fills 11 pages of the notebook and begins with a reflection on why she wrote the account in November, following the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in Queens, New York. The recounting of 9/11 begins with Christopoulos recalling the night of September 10, 2001, and continues through the afternoon of September 11th. Christopoulos worked at Deutsche Bank at 130 Liberty Street on 9/11 and witnessed the terrorist attack, evacuated from the building, got caught in the collapse of the South Tower, and evacuated lower Manhattan by walking north along the West Side Highway.
Historical Notes
Linda Christopoulos was born in Fairfield, NJ, and lived in Englewood, NJ. She pursued a career in finance and held prestigious positions at Morgan Stanley and BlackRock, Inc., an American global investment management corporation based in New York City. At the time of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Christopoulos was a vice president at Deutsche Bank, which had an office in 130 Liberty Street, adjacent to the World Trade Center.
Christopoulos’s handwritten account details the events that unfolded on September 11, 2001 and how she experienced them firsthand. Christopoulos kept the notebook throughout numerous moves, and it was in her possession until her death in 2019 of leukemia, believed to be linked to her exposure to the toxic dust on 9/11. According to her niece, Shannon Viola, one of Christopoulos’ dying wishes was to donate the handwritten testimony of her 9/11 experience to the 9/11 Museum.
