Club Deportivo Guadalajara football club jersey. The jersey is red and white striped with the Cocoa-Cola logo in the center of the shirt and the Club Deportivo Guadalajara logo on the upper left breast. Handwritten on the jersey is text: "From Mexico to our fallen brothers and their families." In the middle of the shirt is written: "And Jesus said to him, 'Assuredly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.' Luke 23:42." Over the logo is written: "You were innocent, yet you were taken away. You are not alone, for the innocent as a whole collective were taken away as one | God Bless." On the back of the jersey is the logo for Sol cerveza.
This jersey was left anonymously as a tribute from Mexican citizens. The Mexican Consulate counts 16 Mexican nationals among 9/11 victims. Many others who assisted in recovery and cleanup operations after 9/11 have since died as a result of their exposure to World Trade Center toxins. Securing compensation and assistance for victims’ families and other Latino responders was complicated by the undocumented status of some.
