Historical Notes
May Davis Group employee Joanne "JoJo" Capestro began her evacuation on the 87th floor of the North Tower after experiencing what felt like an earthquake and smelling jet fuel. She began her descent with several colleagues and reached the street level just as the South Tower collapsed. Sheltering behind a vehicle near St. Paul's Chapel, Capestro was assisted by a fireman before encountering a coworker who accompanied her away from the area. Covered in dust, Capestro wasn't able to reach her home in Brooklyn until late afternoon.
Capestro's WTC ID was later recovered from Ground Zero.
