Description
L.L. Bean-brand dark orange jacket with gray fleece interior lining. The City of New York Department of Design and Construction logo is embroidered in white on the right breast. "Paul Reedy" is embroidered in white on the left breast below the brand logo. On the back of the jacket is an embroidered image of the Twin Towers with overlay text in white that reads: "DDC DISASTER | RECOVERY | TEAM | September 11, 2001." The city municipal seal is embroidered on both sides of the text.
Historical Notes
Paul W. Reedy worked for the New York City Department of Design & Construction (DDC) and joined fellow DDC staff in the rescue and recovery effort at the World Trade Center site. He reported to Ground Zero for five months, primarily working the night shift. In the years following 9/11, Reedy developed psychological and physical ailments linked to his service. He began struggling with flashbacks and developed a cough. He was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and colon cancer in 2009-2010. He succumbed to his condition on October 27, 2015.
