Description
Promotional poster for the Observation Deck at the World Trade Center. The poster depicts the Twin Towers created from a collage of words that include the numerous sites you can see from the Observation Deck, written in multiple colors. At the base of the Towers is the Statue of Liberty and text that reads: "NEW YORK BEGINS AT THE DECK | AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER." In the top left is printed: "The World Trade Center. It's the only place to begin sampling all of New York's hundreds of sights & experiences. Get an eyeful of the city and parts of neighboring states from our Observation Deck, 107 stories up on top of Tower Two. And you won't believe our elevator ride - 1/4 mile in 58 seconds flat." In the lower right is printed: "After you've seen New York's most spectacular view, stay for dinner (or have breakfast, lunch, or tea) at our 22 restaurants and eating spots. Historical Notes
At 1,377 feet, the South Tower Observation Deck’s outdoor viewing platform was the highest in the world. On a clear day, one could see for 45 miles in each direction from the Observation Deck. On average, the Observation Deck attracted 1.8 million visitors per year. From the opening day of the Observation Deck in December 1975, through close of business the night of September 10, 2001, approximately 46,350,000 visitors experienced the views from the top of the South Tower.
