New York City- Red, White & Blue
Description
Framed print on canvas by Shari Hatchett Bohlmann (aka Roxy) titled New York City - Red, White, and Blue (2009). The print depicts a vibrant and brightly colored urban collage resembling an evening scene in Times Square. Illuminated with glowing signs and theater marquees featuring popular Broadway shows, the neighborhood pulses with colorful energy. A black and yellow checker cab border runs across the edges of the view. In the upper right corner are the Statue of Liberty and the Twin Towers. Fixed to the North Tower is the sign: "Let Us Never Forget." A rainbow spanning the sky over the two towers is written "Stairway to Heaven." There are several other details embedded in the work that reference 9/11, including a patriotic billboard in the center and a lower tableau depicting the badges of uniform rescue agencies. The print is signed by the artist and part of the limited edition 495/495.
Historical Notes
Like the contemporary pop-artist Charles Fazzino, artist Sharie Hatchett Bohlmann—who uses the moniker “Roxy”—is best known for vibrant, busy urban collages integrating references to landmarks distinctive to well-known cities, from Chicago and Singapore to Nashville and Las Vegas. Colorful and exuberant, the composition also serves as a subtle tribute to 9/11.
