Historical Notes
In the first months after 9/11, sports leagues and teams acknowledged the service of first responders. In addition to inviting emergency workers to games and donating to relief efforts, some teams incorporated tributes into their uniforms. Years later, these practices continue. In 2018, the New York Knicks wore basketball jerseys paying tribute to the New York City Fire Department for seven home games at Madison Square Garden.
