Description
Rise Above lapel pin. The pin depicts an enamel graphic of the Manhattan skyline in red with the Twin Towers in white rising up against a blue sky, which doubles as the blue field on the American flag. To the right of the blue field are the flag's red and white stripes. On the lower right side is text that reads: "Rise Above" in gold enamel; the graphic is outlined in the same gold. The pin is attached to a card with background information about the graphic.

Historical Notes
Karen Simon is an artist and graphic designer who lives and works in Greenwich Village. Immediately after the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center, Simon drew on her design sensibility to create an image she hoped would prove both inspirational and healing. Referencing the design elements of the American flag, Rise Above combines a patriotic red, white, and blue color palette with bold, abstracted graphics of the Twin Towers and the New York City skyline.
