Historical Notes
The Port Authority significantly improved its identification card system after the 1993 bombing, adding encoded photo identification cards issued to tenants and registered guests. These changes made it increasingly difficult for unauthorized persons or vehicles to gain access to the complex. At that time, this level of security screening was unusual.
Linda Horan, who worked in the World Trade Center's South Tower, successfully evacuated from her 94th floor office on February 26, 1993. Horan used this card to gain access into the disaster recovery site after the 1993 attack.
