Historical Notes Born in Nigeria, Olabisi Yee grew up in Newark, New Jersey. She lived in New York City with her husband, Kent, and their two children. On Saturdays, Olabisi liked to visit flea markets with her mother. Olabisi worked as an assistant manager at International Office Centers. On September 11, she called her mother from her office on the North Tower’s 79th floor to say good-bye. She was 38 years old.
Curator's Comment Olabisi Yee was born in Nigeria, lived in Liberia, and then moved to Newark, New Jersey. Her first name can be translated roughly from Yoruba as “brings joy.” For her husband, Olabisi’s smile “could make the darkest day the best and brightest.” Olabisi would call her mother three times a day to trade jokes and check on her children who her mother watched. She called on September 11, but this time it was to say goodbye. This tribute button memorializes Olabisi through a family picture that includes her husband, Kent, and her children, Jordan and Jenna.
