State of New Jersey paramedic patch belonging to John P. Skala. The patch is white with yellow-threaded trim and is made in the shape of a badge. "MICU | PARAMEDIC | CERTIFIED | STATE OF NEW JERSEY" is embroidered in blue. In the center is a blue medical Star of Life symbol with a superimposed yellow Rod of Asclepius.

Historical Notes
A native of Passaic, New Jersey, John Skala lived in Clifton. In his free time, he volunteered at the New Jersey Special Olympics and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. He also liked to sing at karaoke bars. A PAPD officer, John was assigned to the Lincoln Tunnel and worked part time as a paramedic. On September 11, Officer Skala reported to the towers from a New Jersey courtroom. He was 31 years old.
