Historical Notes
Born in Glen Cove, Long Island, Martin DeMeo lived in nearby Farmingville with his wife, Joan, and their two teenage children. Martin was a baseball fan and had collected hundreds of Major League players’ autographs on baseball cards and balls. A 16-year FDNY veteran assigned to Hazmat Company 1, on September 11 Firefighter DeMeo responded with his unit to the World Trade Center. He was 47 years old.
