Historical Notes Brooklyn-born Father Mychal Judge lived in a Manhattan friary. A Catholic priest and Franciscan friar, he spent his life tending the sick, homeless, and grieving. In 1992, he became an FDNY chaplain, accompanying firefighters to fires and ministering to them afterward. On September 11, Father Judge responded to the towers to offer prayers and last rites. He was 68 years old.
