Historical Notes
This print is part of a series titled 36 Views of One World Trade Center, created by 9/11 first responder and FDNY member Brenda Berkman as she documented the construction of the new One World Trade Center, designed by architect David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. For Berkman, printmaking became a path through the trauma she had experienced on 9/11 and in the subsequent months that she spent at Ground Zero. Through her observations, Berkman was impressed by the craftmanship and spirit of the thousands of skilled hands contributing to the construction of the tower; she often included some “everyday working people” in her prints to honor their contribution.
