Raising the Beacon
Lithograph print titled Raising the Beacon, created by Brenda Berkman (b. 1951). The print depicts the spire to the top of the One World Trade Center building being lifted by crane to the top of the building. An American flag is attached to the spire. Workers are photographing the event on their cellphones. The print is signed.
This print is part of a series titled 36 Views of One World Trade Center, created by 9/11 first responder and FDNY member Brenda Berkman as she documented the construction of the new One World Trade Center building from 36 vantage points around the city. For Berkman, printmaking became a path through the trauma she had experienced on 9/11 and in the subsequent months that she spent at Ground Zero.
