DescriptionTribute comic "Joe Hasson Angel of Brooklyn!" created in memory of
Joseph John Hasson III and left at the 9/11 Memorial. The comic is printed and laminated and features a graphic drawing of a muscular Hasson wearing a "Brooklyn U.S.A" shirt with several dialogue bubbles next to him. At the top is printed text that reads:
His hand and forearm nearly destroyed in an intense car accident, Joe Hasson rebuilt himself through sheer force of will into a powerhouse of a man! The shattered limb made stronger than that of ten men, Joe Hasson's strength of body was undisputed! But it was his strength of character that proved an inspiration to all who knew him! A generous and caring man, Joe Hasson brought happiness to his family and friends. Joe went on to start a family of his own, providing them with a home and protection, but most of all, with Love! Suddenly taken from us by the cowardly acts of the most foul vermin, his part in our lives seemed to come to an end. But now, as we look beyond the limited sight of mere mortal men, we see that Joe Hasson's role in our lives may not have come to end at all. In fact, his most vital role may be just beginning..."
The comic starts "up in heaven" with a conversation between an angel, Michelangelo, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, and General Patton. They are discussing the merit of Hasson becoming the Angel of Brooklyn. Below is Hasson remarking about his status as an angel. He says, "First thing I gotta do now is find the Big Man himself! I have to make sure my mom and pop are taken care of from up here. Vicki and Chris, too! And then most of all, I gotta tell Him about my wife and kid! The little guy is going to grow up to be President, or whatever the heck he wants to be, if this ever lovin' Angel of Brooklyn has anything to say about it! And then I gotta see about this music in this place! All these harps are drivin' me batty..."
At the bottom is continued text: "And so we see that Joe's new mission is identical to his old
—protect and love his family! The players and the game are the same, only the location has changed. Now, instead of guiding his wife and son's hands from the confines of earth, Joe does that and so much more, from the limitless expanse of Heaven!"
