Mixed media collage and oil on canvas created by Elena Keller titled September 11th. The piece depicts images of the attacks, Ground Zero, recovery workers, and Osama bin Laden taken from period newspapers and magazines cut and copied to acid free paper and attached onto the canvas with an acrylic matte medium. The images of the attack and subsequent destruction are collaged into a dark blue spiral shape that moves vertically across the canvas. Images of bin Laden and the perpetrators are outside the spiral in jagged shapes resembling lighting. The piece is primarily black and shades of blue.
The mixed media artwork, September 11th, was conceived and painted by Elena Keller as an emotional response to the terrorist attacks, which had a long-lasting impact on the artist. The work, created in the artist’s studio in Congers, New York, is comprised of collage and oil on canvas. The collage component contains publicly available images from period newspapers and magazines.
