Historical Notes
Artists Richard Sloat and Su-Li Hung met in the early 1970s at the Art Students League of New York, an independent art school located on West 57th Street in Manhattan. Both were studying printmaking at the time. In 1973, the newly married couple moved into a loft apartment on the Lower East Side. For a time, they earned a livable income by selling prints on the streets depicting the cityscape.
On 9/11, the couple witnessed the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center and immediately began processing their experience through their art making.
