Handwritten note left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Renee Barrett-Arjune.The note was written on the back of a printed kiosk Memorial map and reads:
"Hate is too great a burden to bear. I will stick with love. | I was with you in your hospital room a few days before you died. You taught me that life is too short to hate—all that we have left that gives life is love. We love you, Renee."

Historical Notes
Raised in Brooklyn, Renee Barrett-Arjune lived in Irvington, New Jersey, with her partner, Enez, and her teenage son. A member of the Metropolitan Community Church of New York, Renee worked as a compensation accountant at Cantor Fitzgerald, in offices near the top of the North Tower. On September 11, Renee was severely burned while evacuating the building. She died a month later. Renee was 41 years old.

Curator's Comment
This note was left on the N-48 parapet of the North Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Renee Barrett-Arjune on September 11, 2014. The note was folded and placed in the hollow of the name.
