Historical Notes
The selflessness of first responders and many others on and after 9/11, together with the widely experienced impulse to help others in the aftermath of the attacks, forged a connection between 9/11 remembrance and public service. Immediately following the attacks and continuing long after, many peopled donated blood, organized charitable events to raise support for victims’ families, first responder agencies, and contributed to other philanthropic causes.
