Description
Memorandum from the New York State Psychiatric Institute Infection Control Department covering a Bio-Threat Update for November 9, 2001. The memo covers the subject of anthrax, including "what to do if you suspect that you've found anthrax at P.I."
Historical Notes
In October 2001, the first inhalational anthrax case in the United States since 1976 was identified in a media company worker in Florida. This and subsequent anthrax attacks fueled anxiety about increased potential for biological and chemical threats. Investigators eventually traced the anthrax to letters mailed from New Jersey to congressional offices, television stations, and newspapers around the country. In total, the anthrax attacks killed five people and sickened 17 others.
