Description
MI5 Security Service challenge coin. The coin is gold-colored with a blue border and features the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom in the center. "MI5 SECURITY SERVICE | WASHINGTON" is printed around the border. The reverse side of the coin includes the MI5 crest with a golden winged sea lion (half lion and half fish) on a blue background surrounded by a green cinquefoil, a portcullis, and red roses. A crown sits on top of the middle portcullis. At the bottom of the crest is the MI5 motto: "Regnum Defende," meaning "Defend the Realm" in Latin.

After 9/11, the U.S. government mobilized intelligence and federal law enforcement agencies to share data and expertise with each other, U.S. military partners, international allies, and local informants to combat vast terrorist networks. The influx and analysis of recovered items increased dramatically.
