Historical Notes
Born in Brooklyn, Carl Bini lived on Staten Island with his wife, Christine, and their two daughters. He spoke of retiring in 2003 from FDNY Rescue Company 5 and working at the construction company he co-owned with fellow firefighter Joseph Mascali. On September 11, Carl and Joseph were off duty in Staten Island when they learned of the attacks and headed for the towers. Firefighter Bini was 44 years old.
